A good place to start is likely with the meaning of this blog.
The meaning of prana free is exactly how it sounds. Prana is a sanskrit term which means breath. The word free is hopefully self-explanitory, but since one never knows the nature of her reader, I will define: freedom is the expression of an individual’s choice without the use of coersion or force. Prana free, breath free.
In Ayurveda teachings, prana is the vital energy which activates the body and mind. It is regarded as one of three subtle essences which is necessary to combat disease and aging, along with ojas (bodily tissue) and tejas (metabolism) Prana is the life energy which preforms respiration, oxygenation, and circulation and it also governs higher cerebral functions including the sensory and motor activities. My new book Ayurveda: The Science of Self-Healing ($10.95 at Vitamin Cottage) is where I was first exposed to this word and concept. Author Vasant Lad explains that the “natural intelligence of the body is expressed spontaneously through prana. For example, if a child has a deficiency of iron or calcium, the body’s natural intelligence, governed by prana, will lead the child to eat mud.” Kinda like a dog eating poo.
It is my feeling that many of us are deprived of various essentials and this has led us to a disease state. The hope for this blog is for me and my readers to become children eating mud (or dogs eating poo), knowing naturally the best choices to make in this deprived society. This will not be easy but using the power within each of us we will prana free one day.
I encourage each and every visitor to comment and make requests about their interests in this world and let us all build on each and prana free.
